CAMP FIXEL
A Free Musical Theatre Experience
Camp Fixel is a free two-week musical theatre summer camp for underserved elementary schoolers in Jacksonville. For the past six years, eighteen-year-old Abigail has directed, produced, and organized Camp Fixel for 30 elementary aged children from Jacksonville Housing Authority neighborhoods, foster homes, military, and low income families. The campers are provided with breakfast, lunch, and two snacks daily. At the end of camp, the kids put on a full musical theater performance for their friends, families, and guardians.
Through theatre, kids learn and strengthen many aspects: self-confidence, teamwork, leadership, language, time management, and responsibility.

CAMP FIXEL AT A GLANCE
A Bit of Background
Camp Fixel is the brainchild of then twelve-year-old Abigail Fixel. Originally conceived to be her Bat-Mitzvah project, she raises funds, organizes, and runs a two-week free musical theater camp for elementary aged children who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend a summer camp. Camp Fixel provides campers with breakfast, lunch and two snacks plus a daily dose of singing, acting and dancing. At the end of the two weeks, Abigail directs campers in a full musical theater performance for their families and friends Sharing her love of musical theater is a passion of Abigail's as she recognizes that the benefits of theatre performance last far beyond opening night. There is no feeling comparable to bringing out a child's voice.

"Theater helps children shine. It brings out their inner strength. They become more confident. They become more outspoken, and it even helps them make friends!"
